In the words of steering committee member Patrick Eccles, “At this year’s Summit it was refreshing to reconnect with old friends, current partners and meet new colleagues who reinforce my trust in what we are doing as a network. The 2-day event provided an important moment for reflection on what we need to do in the years ahead.”

Our 2023 Institute at Haverford College was held in partnership with the Global Engagement in the Liberal Arts (GELA) Network. With particular attention to the intersection of expansive, liberal arts and humanistic academic curricula with experiential global and civic learning, this gathering focused on the ways in which institutional innovations can intentionally upset historic patterns of exclusion and marginalization.

A far departure from the tyranny of Powerpoint and the exhaustive (and exhausting) programming that dominates conventional conferences, the Unconference format allowed for spontaneous networking, as well as structured and unstructured learning opportunities…in a beautiful setting with excellent camaraderie and creative conversations.
