GES Community of Practice
According to Etienne and Beverly Wenger-Trayner, “Communities of practice are groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly.” The GES community of practice is a multi-institutional group of member campus faculty and professional staff who share a concern and passion for understanding and improving student global and civic learning through assessment and research.
The group meets monthly to co-create and build relationships. While specific session topics are determined by the group, in general we share ways to utilize the survey data to better understand and improve student global learning and/or administrative and leadership decision making, and strategies for disseminating our new knowledge and improved practices with the wider fields of global learning and community-engagement. Session topics focus on digesting the survey annual report, quantitative and qualitative analysis, developing an on-campus network, creating visualizations, using the code book, presenting the story of your data to your campus, facilitating use of the toolkit among your faculty, and using GES data for publishing and presentations.
